FOLLOW UP: Red Lion Junglist exclusivly at Turnstyle

As always visiting Richmond is a hoot especially when you get to visit Turnstyle. This weekend was a virtual who's who in south easteren VA junglist scene. Or maybe it just felt like that as I got to touch base with my friends down south. Big ups to Joanna O & Jessie first and foremost. Konztant Junglist, Indica Jo, Patrick Currier, Dinah Myte, Ill Omen, Chris Grow, & the unforgettable Kristy Cuffee.

So there is a little bit of a proud father moment as I watched people roll through the Turnstyle shop and pick up the Red Lion Junglist shirt. Needless to say I owe Turnstyle some huge props for believing in my work. As soon as I they are available online I will update you all.

The Art Walk was kicked off by Joanna O, the First Lady of Drum & Bass in Richmond braved the chilly temperatures to warm up the wheels of steel.

The thing I enjoy most about watching Joanna O is the fierce focus she brings to her decks. At no point in the mix do you think that she is not in control of the sounds she is playing. Every time I've seen her play she bring the sharp shooter precision to the mix.

Shuffling into the mix between a Joanna O's jazzy funk set & RobOne's old school review I had my hands full but I enjoyed the challenge to make the evening flow smoothly. Wheeling out with some funky jazz hip-hop to help warm up the crowd.

About 3 records in I could see if I was going to get anyone excited to come hang out on this cold ass night I had to start rocking the island sound. So I removed my coat, pulled the ragga tracks and started warming up the street.

Red Lion Junglist exclusivly at Turnstyle

Red Lion Junglist shirt will be exclusively available at Turnstyle (Richmond, VA) through March 2013.
Turnstyle has graciously partnered up with From the Annex, to bring the Red Lion Junglist shirt to the masses.

Illustrated by Ocean Eiler for From the Annex.
In 2012, Ocean started this project to illustrate Jungle / Drum & Bass. After many attempts including eagles, bears and classic music hardware he settled on the lion. Strong, caring, fierce and wise these are all characteristics of the scene & the music we love. Also its a strong icon for both England & Jamaica where this music was born & got many of its influences from. The drawing itself had to be complex, simple, bold and calming. He also wanted to give a nod to some of his favorite skateboard illustrators from the early 1990's.

These shirts will be available Friday March 1st, during Richmond's Artwalk. Kicking off this exclusive, come check out live Vinyl DJ's playing Jungle / Drum & Bass and a photography exhibit at Turnstyle.

RANDOMNESS: An Evening with RobOne & Surface Noise Productions

I spent an evening with Rob One from Surface Noise Productions, during which made a few things abundantly clear.

A) I'm a DJ not a sound engineer
B) I can have a great idea and have all the ground work started but I will need people like Rob One to make the most from my sound.
C) I really need to give Logic a second look. Ba Ha

Rob One gave me a preview of Logic and "scratched the surface" of what it can do evidently. From everything I saw Logic is a beast of a program with a lot of power. Especially when it comes to drilling down on a track and isolating the bass sounds that are overloading the mix. BA HA.

By the end of the evening we made a few tweeks to the track ended up spending a great deal of time just catching up and referencing books, records and talking about the use of major and minor chords in Jungle / Drum & Bass tracks. Which was totally needed as my brain was swimming from all the new program data I was trying to take in.

Big Props to Rob One at Surface Noise Productions for having me out and tearing apart my project.
Respect

While I was out and about in the motherlands of Scotland. Rob One from Surface Noise Productions came into the Annex Studios and tore up the wheels of steel in my absence.
