Randomness: Rant of the day

Today's rant.... if DJ Blend is what has become of dj culture, and the masses are cool with that, I give up. has anyone ever gone out to see a DJ and got completely blown away? heard a set that inspired you to become a DJ? most of those DJ's put almost every ounce of their focus into their set and into the crowd, trying to program tunes in the perfect order to take you into a "lose yourself" moment. when you see a dj who spends maybe 80% of their set dancing to their own music not caring what the crowd is doing or wanting, then something is wrong. but again, if that's what is hot right now, enjoy it while it lasts. maybe i got to get with the times, but for me I expect more and would rather see someone give it all they got rather than audition for the circus. end rant :) - AK1200

The Librarian's resolutions for 2013

I'm glad this year is over. 2012 up in till a month ago was pretty banging but then within the last 4 weeks I've watched life get all turned upside down. ba ha. never a dull moment. Now with the morning sun on my face and the sound of the kettle boiling in the background I'm feeling ready to face off with 2013.

The Librarian's Resolutions for 2013:
------------------------------------------------

001: Once a track had been played (for a show or for a podcast) its thrown into the off limits bin, for the next 6 show.*
002: More podcast shows (at least 12). That's one a month.
003: Focus on finding my sound in production, and have at least one track cut to dubplate.
004: Keep having fun.
005: Play more shows in & outside of NOVA
006: Launch the From the Annex merchandise line. Shirts and Stickers for now

 * my wife recently challenged me to not play the same record twice for 6 shows. She did this because she felt my sound was "played out" and I needed to expand my sound track list. This is why I married her, blunt and honest! So far I have 5 more to go and I've really enjoyed the challenge.

So what are your new years resolutions for 2013? Share them in the comments below.

In the mean time keep smiling

RANDOMNESS: Bristol Jungle Documentary – Sounds of the West 1996

An excellent (near) half hour documentary which takes you through the Bristol Jungle scene of 1996.
Bristol was a hotbed for UK music, as well as the Full Cycle crew, the West Country city was responsible for the ‘Trip Hop’ explosion of the mid 90′s with artists such as Portishead (who I worship), Tricky and Massive Attack among others.
Of course a year later in ’97 Roni Size and his live ensemble ’Reprazent‘ blew up and acheived a landmark in Drum and Bass by lifting the (then) coveted Mercury Music Prize.
To the documentary; enjoy some classic jump up jungle and interviews / clips from DJ Storm, Jakes, Flynn and Flora, the Full Cycle gang and more.
